What To Plant Now: November

Winter treesWho said planting doesn’t happen in Florida? We’re so much more than oceans and sand. Florida is home to many crops that are essentials to daily life. At Mr. Tree and Lawn Service, we pride ourselves on having knowledge not only about trees, but everything gardening. This is why we’ve taken the time to list plants that are great for planting this month. Take a look!

According to the University of Florida IFAS Extension Florida Gardening Calendar, varieties of bedding plants, bulbs, herbs and vegetables are good for planting during this time of the year.

Bedding Plants

Creating a display of fall colors with cool season bedding plants. Some to try are pansy, viola, and chrysanthemum.

Amaryllis, crinum, and daylily are popular bulbs that are good for winter planting.

A wide variety of herbs like cooler, dryer weather, including cilantro, dill, fennel, parsley, sage, and thyme are great for this time of year so continue to plant your herbs from seeds and plants.

Continue planting cool season crops such as beet, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, kale, and lettuce.

In addition to these, if you’re anything like us – you’ll love planting Taiwan cherry tree. This tree is an ornamental cherry suitable for north Florida. Late winter will bring pink buds so consider planting one now.

As you prune your plants during the cooler months, don’t forget about the birds – make a small brush pile in the back of the yard for them.
